F. Gary Gray (born July 17, 1969) is an American film director, producer, music video director and actor. Gray is best known for directing The Italian Job (2003), Straight Outta Compton (2015), and The Fate of the Furious (2017).
Gray was born in New York City, and raised in South Los Angeles. His parents divorced when he was a child, and he was raised by his single mother. Gray began his career as an actor, appearing in a number of music videos and television commercials. He made his feature film debut as a director with the urban drama Friday (1995).
Gray achieved critical and commercial success with The Italian Job (2003), a heist film starring Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron. He followed this with the action films A Man Apart (2003) and The Negotiator (1998). Gray directed the biographical drama Straight Outta Compton (2015), which was a commercial and critical success. His most recent film is The Fate of the Furious (2017), the eighth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise.
Gray has a net worth of $20 million. He has been married to actress Lela Rochon since 1992, and they have two children together.

I don't have a typical filmmaker background. I didn't grow up with a super eight camera or a video camera. I didn't start cutting movies when I was four or five. I actually didn't really start to get into the research of film until I was much older. I decided I wanted to direct a lot earlier than I started to do the research, which is really strange, but it is the case.
