Ed Rollins is an American political consultant who served as the White House Political Director for President Ronald Reagan and as the Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. He also worked on the presidential campaigns of Gerald Ford, George H. W. Bush, and Bob Dole.
Rollins was born in New York City on March 19, 1943. His parents were both active in the Democratic Party. His father was a state assemblyman and his mother was a schoolteacher. Rollins has two sisters.
Rollins attended public schools in New York City and graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He was active in the College Republicans and served as the chairman of the Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans.
After graduation, Rollins worked for the Republican National Committee as a field director in 1966 and 1967. He then worked on the presidential campaigns of Gerald Ford in 1976 and George H. W. Bush in 1988. In between those campaigns, he served as the White House Political Director for President Ronald Reagan and as the Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Rollins has been married three times. His first wife was Barbara Kaye, with whom he had two children. His second wife was Carolyn Humphrey, with whom he had one child. His third wife is Sherry Rollins, with whom he has two children.
