Bill Brochtrup is an American actor, best known for his role as John Irvin on the television series NYPD Blue.

Early Life
Brochtrup was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 7, 1963. His parents divorced when he was four years old, and he was raised by his mother, a schoolteacher. He has two older sisters.
Brochtrup graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in theater arts. He moved to Los Angeles in 1986 to pursue a career in acting.
Career
Brochtrup’s first acting role was in the 1987 television movie The Man Who Broke 1,000 Chains. He has also appeared in the films The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), Mulholland Falls (1996), and The Jackal (1997).
From 1993 to 2005, Brochtrup played the role of John Irvin on the television series NYPD Blue. He has also had guest roles on the television series L.A. Law, Picket Fences, and The X-Files.
In 2006, Brochtrup began appearing as a regular on the television series The Closer. He played the role of Mike Tao, a police detective who specializes in computer forensics. The Closer ended its run in 2012, and Brochtrup has since appeared on the television series Major Crimes, Rizzoli & Isles, and NCIS: Los Angeles.
