Wolfgang Joop (born November 18, 1944) is a German fashion designer and the founder of the Wunderkind fashion label.
Joop was born in Potsdam, Germany, and raised in Braunschweig. His father was a doctor and his mother was a homemaker. He has two sisters.
Joop began his career as a window dresser for the German department store Kaufhof. He later studied fashion design at the Berlin Institute of Fashion Technology.
In 1968, Joop launched his first fashion label, called “Joop!” The label became known for its avant-garde designs and use of unconventional materials.
In 1987, Joop launched his second label, Wunderkind. The label was aimed at a younger market and featured more casual designs.
In 1999, Joop sold his labels to the German fashion company Otto Group. He remained creative director of the labels until 2006.
Joop has been married three times. His first marriage was to Karin Gregersen, with whom he has two sons, Nikolai and Viktor. His second marriage was to Alexandra von Fürstenberg, with whom he has a daughter, Jette. His third marriage is to Ivana Sert, with whom he has a son, Julius.
Joop currently resides in Hamburg, Germany.
