What Went Down is an American television series that aired on ABC from September 21, 1998 to May 8, 1999. The series was created by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Thomas Schlamme. The show starred Rob Lowe as Sam Seaborn, a deputy communications director for the President of the United States. The show also starred Moira Kelly as Mallory O’Brien, a political consultant; Dulé Hill as Charlie Young, the President’s personal aide; Allison Janney as C.J. Cregg, the President’s press secretary; Janel Moloney as Donna Moss, a senior assistant to the President; and Richard Schiff as Toby Ziegler, the President’s communications director.

The series was set in the West Wing of the White House and focused on the daily lives of the President and his staff. The show was praised for its writing and cast. However, it was cancelled after one season due to low ratings.

Rob Lowe was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on March 17, 1964. His parents were Barbara Lynn (Hepler), a schoolteacher, and Charles Davis Lowe, a lawyer. He has two brothers, actor Chad Lowe and producer Justin Lowe. Lowe was educated at Santa Monica High School and then at Stanford University, where he studied English and drama.

Lowe began his acting career in 1984 with a small role in the film The Outsiders. He went on to star in films such as St. Elmo’s Fire (1985), About Last Night… (1986), Square Dance (1987), Youngblood (1986), Bad Influence (1990), Wayne’s World (1992), Tommy Boy (1995), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), and The West Wing (1999-2006). He has also appeared in television series such as The Stand (1994), Dr. Vegas (2004-2005), Brothers & Sisters (2006-2010), and Parks and Recreation (2010-2015).

Lowe has been married to Sheryl Berkoff since 1991. They have two sons, Matthew Edward Lowe and John Owen Lowe.

Moira Kelly was born in Queens, New York on March 6, 1968. Her parents are Anne (née Carolan) and Harry Kelly. She has four brothers and sisters. Kelly was educated at Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center in New York and then at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she studied acting.

Kelly made her film debut in 1988 with a small role in Clean and Sober. She went on to star in films such as The Cutting Edge (1992), Chaplin (1992), Love Field (1992), With Honors (1994), One Tree Hill (2003-2004), and The Lion King (1994). She has also appeared in television series such as Twin Peaks (1990-1991), Chicago Hope (1995-1996), Dawson’s Creek (1998-2003), and Strike Back (2013).

Kelly has been married to Kevin Ryan since 2010. They have two daughters, Maeve Frances Ryan and Lila Rose Ryan.

Dulé Hill was born in Orange, New Jersey on May 3, 1975. His parents are Anne Marie (née Mitchell) and Berthol Hill Sr. He has two brothers and sisters. Hill was educated at Sayreville War Memorial High School and then at Drew University, where he studied political science and economics.

Hill made his television debut in 1995 with a small role in the series New York Undercover. He went on to star in the series The West Wing (1999-2006), Psych (2006-2014), Suits (2011-2019), and Ballers (2015-2019). He has also appeared in films such as Holes (2003), She’s All That (1999), and Go (1999).

Hill has been married to Nicole Lyn since 2010. They have one son, Berkeley Micah Hill.

Allison Janney was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 19, 1959. Her parents are Macy Brooks (née Putnam) and Jervis Spencer Janney Jr., who was a businessman and jazz pianist. She has three brothers, including actor Paul Janney. Janney was educated at Kenyon College in Ohio, where she studied drama.

Janney made her film debut in 1994 with a small role in the film Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult. She went on to star in films such as The Help (2011), Juno (2007), Hairspray (2007), The Girl on the Train (2016), I, Tonya (2017), and Bombshell (2019). She has also appeared in television series such as Masters of Sex (2013-2016), The West Wing (1999-2006), Mom (2013-present), and Mr. Mercedes (2017-present).

Janney has been married to Richard Jenik since 1983. They have one son, John Richard Jenik.
