Tom Dreesen is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and author. He was born on February 14, 1936, in Harvey, Illinois, to Dutch immigrants. His father was a janitor and his mother was a homemaker. He has four siblings. Dreesen’s early education was in the public schools of Harvey. He excelled in sports, especially basketball, and was a member of the Harvey High School state championship basketball team. After high school, Dreesen served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.

Dreesen’s career in comedy began when he met Tim Reid, another Air Force veteran, at a Chicago club. The two began working together as a comedy team, and they eventually moved to Los Angeles, where they became regulars at the Comedy Store. Dreesen also appeared on several television shows, including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and The Merv Griffin Show. In 1988, Dreesen published his autobiography, Tim and Tom: An American Comedy in Black and White, which chronicles his friendship with Reid and their careers in show business.

Dreesen has been married three times and has four children. His first marriage was to his high school sweetheart, Carol. They divorced after eight years. Dreesen’s second marriage was to Nancy Dutton, an actress. They had two children together before divorcing in 2002. Dreesen’s third marriage is to Julie Brown, with whom he has two children.

Dreesen is a tall man, with a slender build and salt-and-pepper hair. He is known for his clean comedy act and his ability to connect with audiences of all ages.

1After four years in the Navy, Tom often worked two jobs to support his family, usually construction and bartending. Says his life changed when he joined the Jaycees where he created a drug-education program for grade school students and began to speak in front of classes and assemblies.

4Created "Day for Darlene" in 1982, a 26-mile run through south Chicago to raise money to help fight multiple sclerosis. His older sister, Darlene, died from MS in 1989.
