Richard Cox is an American actor, best known for his role as Zack Tyler on the television series Oz and as Richie Ryan on the Highlander TV series.
Born in New York City, Cox was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut. His father was an investment banker and his mother was a social worker. He has two sisters.
Cox was educated at the Putney School and at Wesleyan University, where he majored in English. He also studied acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Cox began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in such films as Taps, The Outsiders and The Flamingo Kid. He also had roles on the television series Miami Vice and L.A. Law.
In 1997, Cox was cast as Zack Tyler on the HBO series Oz. He appeared in all 56 episodes of the show’s six-season run.
From 2000 to 2002, Cox starred as Richie Ryan on the Highlander TV series. He also had a recurring role on the show Nip/Tuck from 2003 to 2010.
More recently, Cox has appeared in the films The Bourne Legacy (2012) and The Purge: Anarchy (2014). He also had a recurring role on the TV series Ray Donovan from 2013 to 2016.
Cox has been married twice. His first marriage, to actress Lisa Zane, ended in divorce. He has two children from his second marriage, to actress Kari Wuhrer.
