Plácido Polanco is a former professional baseball infielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, and Miami Marlins. He was a three-time All-Star and won a Gold Glove Award in 2007.
Polanco was born on October 10, 1975, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He grew up in a poor neighborhood and began playing baseball at a young age. His father, Plácido Polanco Sr., was a former professional baseball player in the Dominican Winter League. Polanco Jr. signed with the Detroit Tigers as an amateur free agent in 1994.
He made his MLB debut with the Tigers in 1998 and quickly established himself as one of the best second basemen in the game. He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2005 and helped them win the World Series in 2008. He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2010 and won another World Series with them in 2011. He finished his career with the Miami Marlins in 2013.
Polanco was a career .297 hitter with 2,142 hits, 1,134 RBIs, and 1,065 runs scored. He was named to the All-Star team three times (2002, 2007, 2009) and won a Gold Glove Award at second base in 2007.
