Patsy Cline was born Virginia Patterson Hensley on September 8, 1932, in Winchester, Virginia. Her father, Samuel Lawrence Hensley, was a blacksmith and her mother, Hilda Virginia (née Patterson), was a seamstress. She had two older brothers, Samuel Jr. and Seth, and a younger sister, Sylvia. Cline’s family was poor and often struggled to make ends meet. Her father was an abusive man and her mother often had to take odd jobs to support the family. Cline’s early years were spent in poverty and she often went without food or proper clothing. Despite the hardships she faced, Cline was a bright and outgoing child. She loved music and often sang for her family and friends.
Cline began attending school at the age of six. She was a good student and excelled in her studies. However, she was often teased by her classmates for being poor. Cline did not let this deter her and she continued to work hard in school. After graduating from high school, she married her first husband, Gerald Cline. The couple had two children together, Julie and Randy.
Cline began her singing career in the early 1950s. She started out singing at local clubs and bars in Virginia. She soon began to gain a following and was asked to perform on local radio shows. In 1957, she made her first recordings for Four Star Records. These recordings were not commercially successful. Undeterred, Cline continued to perform and record. In 1960, she signed with Decca Records and released her first single, “I Fall to Pieces.” The song became a huge hit and made Cline a household name. She followed up with the release of several more successful singles, including “Crazy” and “Walkin’ After Midnight.”
Cline’s career was cut short when she was killed in a plane crash on March 5, 1963. She was only 30 years old. At the time of her death, Cline was one of the most popular country music singers in the world. She is remembered for her powerful voice and her ability to connect with her fans. Her legacy continues to live on through her music.

After a break, he realized the problem was that she was attempting to sing it the way he had originally recorded it. After he told her to "make it her own", she got it the first time. According to Nelson in an interview with Terry Gross, it is on more jukeboxes and remains the #1 song on jukeboxes ever. |
