Neal McDonough is an American actor and producer. He is known for his roles in the television series Boomtown, Band of Brothers, Desperate Housewives, and Justified, as well as his voice work in the films Avatar, Red 2, and Minions.
McDonough was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, on February 13, 1966, the son of Catherine (née Bushe) and Frank McDonough, motel owners in Cape Cod. He is of Irish descent and was raised Roman Catholic. McDonough attended Barnstable High School, where he played basketball and baseball, and was a classmate of future filmmaker Peter Farrelly. He graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1988.
McDonough’s first professional acting role was in an episode of the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1990. He went on to have guest roles in a number of television shows such as ER, JAG, and The Practice. In 2001, he had a recurring role as Sean McGrail in the television series Boomtown. The following year, he appeared as Lieutenant Lynn “Buck” Compton in the miniseries Band of Brothers. In 2003, he played serial killer Ted Bundy in the made-for-television film The Deliberate Stranger.
McDonough has had roles in a number of films, including Minority Report (2002), Walking Tall (2004), Flags of Our Fathers (2006), We Are Marshall (2006), Red 2 (2013), and Minions (2015). He has also done voice work for the films Avatar (2009) and Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010).
McDonough married Ruve Robertson in 2003. The couple have two children.
