MØ (born Karen Marie Ørsted on 13 August 1988) is a Danish singer, songwriter and record producer. Born in Odense and raised in Aarhus, she found success as a member of the electropop duo MØ & Diplo with American DJ and producer Diplo. Their single “Lean On” topped charts in several countries, including Denmark, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, France, Germany and Spain.
Ørsted began her musical career as a member of the punk rock band Morose, which she formed with her friend Frederikke Hoffmeier in 2000. The band released two extended plays before disbanding in 2006. She made her solo debut in 2013 with the single “Maiden”, followed by the release of her debut EP, Bikini Daze (2013). Her debut studio album, No Mythologies to Follow, was released in 2014 to critical acclaim. The album peaked at number two on the Danish Albums Chart and spawned the singles “Pilgrim”, “Don’t Wanna Dance” and “Walk This Way”.
In 2015, Ørsted collaborated with Major Lazer and DJ Snake on the single “Lean On”, which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped charts in several other countries, including Denmark, the United Kingdom, Australia and France. The song won Record of the Year at the 2016 Grammy Awards. In 2016, she was featured on the single “Cold Water” by Major Lazer, which also peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. In March 2017, she released her second studio album, Forever Neverland. The album peaked at number one in Denmark and spawned the singles “Nostalgia”, “Sun in Our Eyes” and “Blur”.
Early Life
MØ was born Karen Marie Ørsted on 13 August 1988, in Odense, Denmark. She is the daughter of Erik Ørsted, a librarian, and Vibeke Ørsted, an art teacher. She has an older sister named Frederikke. Ørsted was raised in Aarhus. She attended high school at Langkaer Gymnasium.
Ørsted began playing guitar when she was nine years old and started writing songs when she was fourteen. She was influenced by punk rock bands such as Rancid and Green Day. In 2000, she formed the punk rock band Morose with her friend Frederikke Hoffmeier. The band released two extended plays before disbanding in 2006.

Relationships
MØ has been in a relationship with English musician Justin Parker since 2012. They have two sons together: Leo (born 2016) and Kit (born 2018).
