Larry Romano is an American actor, comedian, and voice artist. He is best known for his role as Richie Aprile on the HBO series The Sopranos, and for his role as Det. Eddie Saccardo on the NBC series Third Watch.
Romano was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 20, 1956, the son of an Italian-American family. His parents were both active in the local Italian-American community. Romano was raised in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn. He attended New Utrecht High School, where he played on the school’s basketball team.
After high school, Romano attended the State University of New York at Fredonia, where he studied acting. He later transferred to the Juilliard School, where he studied drama.
Romano’s first professional acting job was in an Off-Broadway production of The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel in 1977. He made his television debut in an episode of the CBS series Kojak in 1978.
Romano’s breakout role came in 1999, when he was cast as Richie Aprile on the HBO series The Sopranos. Romano played the role for two seasons, until his character was killed off in 2001.
After The Sopranos ended, Romano had a recurring role on the NBC series Third Watch as Det. Eddie Saccardo. He also appeared in a number of films, including The Bronx Is Burning (2007), Brooklyn Rules (2007), and Smokin’ Aces (2007).
Romano has been married twice. His first marriage, to actress Tracy Richman, ended in divorce. He has two daughters from his second marriage, to actress Jillian Rose Reed.
