Julius Tennon is an American actor and producer. He is best known for his role as Dr. Harold Bauer on the medical drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” (2005-2010), and for his role as Charles Miner on the political drama series “The West Wing” (2006-2007). Tennon has also appeared in the films “Django Unchained” (2012), “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” (2013), and “Lila & Eve” (2015).
Tennon was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 4, 1954. His parents were both African American. Tennon was raised in a single-parent household by his mother, who worked as a domestic worker. Tennon has two older sisters. He attended high school in St. Louis, and then went on to study at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Tennon’s acting career began in the early 1980s with a role on the soap opera “General Hospital.” He has since appeared in a number of television shows and films, including “ER,” “Law & Order,” “CSI: Miami,” and “Without a Trace.” Tennon’s most notable roles have been on the television series “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The West Wing.”
Tennon has been married to actress Viola Davis since 2003. The couple has one daughter, Genesis Tennon, who was born in 2014.
