Jackson Bird (born 1990) is an Australian cricketer. He is a right-arm fast bowler and right-handed batsman. He made his Test debut for Australia in December 2013.
Early Life
Bird was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His parents are both teachers. He has two older sisters. Bird attended Waverley College, where he played cricket and rugby union. He was a member of the Australian Under-19 cricket team that won the 2009 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Bird studied economics at the University of Sydney. He played grade cricket for Sutherland in the Sydney Grade Cricket competition. In 2010, he was the leading wicket-taker in the competition, with 61 wickets at an average of 18.29.

Bird made his first-class debut for New South Wales in November 2010. He took 5/42 on debut against Queensland. In the 2011/12 season, he was the leading wicket-taker in the Sheffield Shield, with 41 wickets at an average of 22.36.
Bird was selected in Australia’s Test squad for the 2013 Ashes series. He made his Test debut in the third Test at Old Trafford, taking 3/39 and 3/51. He took his maiden Test five-wicket haul in the fifth Test at The Oval, finishing with figures of 5/73 and 5/91. He finished the series with 18 wickets at an average of 32.77.
In January 2014, Bird was named in Australia’s Test squad for the tour of South Africa. He took 5/59 in the first Test at Centurion, helping Australia to a 281-run victory. He took his second five-wicket haul in the second Test at Port Elizabeth, finishing with figures of 5/73 and 3/47. Australia won the series 2-1, with Bird taking 18 wickets at an average of 23.50.
In November 2014, Bird was named in Australia’s Test squad for the tour of India. He took 5/58 in the first Test at Adelaide, helping Australia to a 481-run victory. In January 2016, Bird was named in Australia’s Test squad for the tour of New Zealand. He took 5/59 in the first Test at Wellington, helping Australia to a 481-run victory. He took his sixth five-wicket haul in the second Test at Christchurch, finishing with figures of 5/73 and 3/47. Australia won the series 2-0, with Bird taking 12 wickets at an average of 24.50.

Bird has played 43 Tests for Australia and has taken 218 wickets at an average of 26.32. He has also scored 1,074 runs at an average of 32.35, including two centuries and six half-centuries.
