Grace Darling was born on November 24, 1815 in Bamburgh, Northumberland, England. Her parents were William and Thomas Darling. She had two sisters and one brother. Grace was educated at home by her father. She showed an early interest in the sea and in helping others.
In 1838, Grace and her father were on duty at the Longstone Lighthouse when they spotted a shipwreck. Grace helped to rescue nine survivors from the ship. This act of heroism made her famous.
Grace continued to work as a lighthouse keeper until her death in 1842. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 26.
Grace Darling was a brave and selfless woman. She is an inspiration to all who help others in need.
