Emma Harrison is a British businesswoman, best known for her work as the former chairman of the UK government’s Work Programme. She was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1966. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a schoolteacher. She has two older sisters. Harrison was educated at a local primary school and then at Ripon Grammar School. She studied economics at the University of Manchester, graduating with a first-class degree in 1988.
After university, Harrison began her career as a management consultant with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). She then moved to work for the British government, first as an advisor on economic policy and then as head of the government’s Small Business Service. In 2006, Harrison left the civil service to set up her own management consultancy, Emma Harrison Associates.
Harrison’s work with the UK government’s Work Programme has been her most high-profile role to date. The programme was designed to help long-term unemployed people find work. Harrison was appointed as the programme’s chairman in 2011 and resigned in 2013 amid controversy over her company’s performance.
Harrison has an estimated net worth of £20 million. She is divorced and has three children.
