Drake Sather was born on October 31, 1965 in Seattle, Washington. His parents divorced when he was young, and he was raised by his mother. He has two older sisters. Sather was a talented athlete in his youth, playing both football and baseball. He attended the University of Washington on a baseball scholarship, but his career was cut short by an injury.

Sather began his comedy career as a writer for the television show Saturday Night Live. He also wrote for the shows MADtv and The Ben Stiller Show. In addition to his work in television, Sather has also written for the films Zoolander and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. He has also appeared in a number of films and television shows, including an episode of Seinfeld.

Sather has been married twice. His first marriage was to actress Lisa Kudrow, with whom he has a daughter. His second marriage is to model and actress Rebecca Romijn, with whom he has twin daughters.
