Chris Russo is an American sports radio personality. He is best known as co-host of the popular sports talk show “Mike and the Mad Dog” on WFAN in New York City. Russo has been with WFAN since the station’s inception in 1987, and the Mike and the Mad Dog show was syndicated nationally from 1999 to 2008.
Russo was born in Syosset, New York, on October 17, 1959. He is of Italian descent. His father, Frank Russo, was a high school football coach and his mother, Marie Russo, was a homemaker. He has two brothers, John and Tony.
Russo graduated from Fordham University in 1981 with a degree in communications. He began his career in sports radio at WFAN in 1987. He quickly became a fan favorite for his candid and opinionated style.
The Mike and the Mad Dog show was syndicated nationally from 1999 to 2008. During that time, the show became one of the most popular sports talk shows in the country. Russo and his co-host, Mike Francesa, were known for their lively debates and often heated exchanges.
In 2008, Russo left WFAN to join Sirius XM Radio. He currently hosts his own show, “Mad Dog Unleashed,” on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio channel.
Russo is married to Lisa Gioia Russo. They have two children together, a son and a daughter.
