Barra Grant is an American actress, writer, and producer. She is best known for her role as Dr. Jennifer Melfi on the HBO series The Sopranos (1999-2007), for which she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama in 2001.

Grant was born in New York City, the daughter of Barbara (née Grant) and William Grant. She has two sisters, Amy and Elizabeth. Grant was raised in a Jewish household. She attended the High School of Performing Arts, where she studied acting.

Grant’s career began in the early 1980s with roles in the soap operas As the World Turns and Ryan’s Hope. She made her film debut in 1984’s Splash. She has since appeared in such films as The First Wives Club (1996), A Walk on the Moon (1999), Keeping the Faith (2000), and What Women Want (2000).

From 1999 to 2007, Grant starred as Dr. Jennifer Melfi on The Sopranos. She won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama for her performance in 2001.

Grant has been married twice. Her first husband was actor Robert Desiderio, with whom she has two daughters, Lily and Daisy. Her second husband is actor/producer Matthew Perry, whom she married in 2018.
