Fact
Before singing country music, was a semi-pro footballer player. He played defensive end.
Toby Keith is an American country music singer, songwriter, actor and record producer. Keith released his first four studio albums—1993’s Toby Keith, 1994’s Boomtown, 1996’s Blue Moon and 1997’s Dream Walkin’, plus a Greatest Hits package for various markets in 2000—on Mercury Records and all four were certified multi-platinum in the United States. These albums all achieved Gold or higher certification by the RIAA.
Early Life
Toby Keith was born in Clinton, Oklahoma, on July 8, 1961, the son of Carolyn Joan (née Ross) and Hubert K. “Hoke” Jr. Keith has three siblings: Thelma, Velma, and Tonya. His father was a semi-professional steer roper and his mother worked as an office manager. When Keith was nine, his grandfather taught him how to play guitar.
Career
Keith began performing in local venues while still in high school. He eventually dropped out of college and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in pursuit of a music career. He worked as a songwriter for several music publishers and also found work as a demo singer. In 1991, Keith signed with Mercury Records Nashville and released his debut album, Toby Keith, the following year. The album’s lead-off single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”, went to number one on the Billboard country charts and was the most played country song of 1992.
Keith’s second album, Boomtown, was released in 1994 and produced three more number one singles: “Who’s That Man”, “You Ain’t Much Fun”, and “Upstairs Downtown”. Blue Moon followed in 1996 and produced two more number one singles: “A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action” and “Me Too”. Dream Walkin’, Keith’s fourth album, was released in 1997 and produced the number one single “How Do I Wrap My Arms Around a Memory”. Keith also released a Greatest Hits package in 2000 that included two new songs: “I Wanna Talk About Me” and “My List”.
In 2003, Keith founded the Show Dog Nashville record label in partnership with Universal Music Group. He released his first album for the label, Shock’n Y’all, that year. The album’s lead-off single, “Beer for My Horses”, was a duet with Willie Nelson that went to number one on the country charts and became one of the most played country songs of 2003. Keith’s next album, Unleashed, was released in 2005 and produced three more number one singles: “As Good as I Once Was”, “Honkytonk U”, and “Big Dog Daddy”. A fourth album for Show Dog Nashville, 2008’s That Don’t Make Me a Bad Guy, produced two more number one singles: “She’s a Hottie” and “God Love Her”.
In 2013, Keith founded the Goodnight & Luck Music Publishing company. He also released his first independent album that year, Clancy’s Tavern. The album’s lead-off single, “Drunk Americans”, was a duet with Kid Rock that went to number one on the country charts.

Many of his songs are either about having good times or are patriotic and allegedly-right-wing political commentaries, though he is a known Democrat and has supported both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

Quote
1
I always vote for the guy I think can get it done. And it ain't nobody's business who I vote for, but I voted for Clinton twice. And that just blows peoples minds when they hear that.
2
Here's the thing. Just because you're pro-troops doesn't mean you're pro-war. And just because you're anti-war doesn't mean you're anti-troops. Just because you don't support the war people think you are anti-troops and you are a bad guy. And just because you go support the troops and rah-rah the troops up all of a sudden you're pro-war. Those are the two biggest misconceptions of the whole thing
