Taimak Guarriello (born June 27, 1964) is an American actor and martial artist. He is best known for his leading role as Leroy Green in the 1985 martial arts film The Last Dragon.
Early Life
Taimak Guarriello was born in Harlem, New York on June 27, 1964, to an African-American father and an Italian-American mother. He has four siblings. His father was a professional boxer and his mother was a dancer. Taimak’s parents divorced when he was four years old and he was raised by his mother in the Bronx.
Taimak began studying martial arts at the age of five. He earned a black belt in karate and began competing in tournaments when he was eight years old. Taimak also took up fencing and won several championships as a teenager. He attended the High School of Performing Arts in New York City, where he studied acting.
Career
Taimak made his film debut in The Last Dragon (1985) as Leroy Green, a martial artist who must face a powerful adversary known as Sho’nuff (played by Julius J. Carry III). The film was a box office success and has become a cult classic.
After The Last Dragon, Taimak appeared in the films Road House (1989) and Kickboxer 2: The Road Back (1991). He also had guest roles on the television shows L.A. Law, The Cosby Show, and A Different World.
In recent years, Taimak has appeared in the films Black Dynamite (2009) and Sushi Girl (2012). He has also done voice work for the video games Def Jam: Fight for NY (2004) and Def Jam: Icon (2007).
Taimak currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
