Stevie Nicks was born on May 26, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona. She is the eldest child of Jess Nicks (1925–2005), a former Navy officer turned businessman, and Barbara Nicks (1927–2011), a former beauty queen. Nicks has a younger brother, Christopher (born 1950), and a younger sister, Lori (born 1952).

Nicks’ parents divorced when she was four years old and she and her siblings were raised by their mother in the Phoenix suburb of Paradise Valley. Nicks began writing songs at an early age and by the age of 16 had co-written “Without You”, which would later appear on Fleetwood Mac’s 1971 album Future Games.

Nicks attended Arcadia High School in Arcadia, California, where she was a cheerleader and an active member of the drama club. She graduated from high school in 1966 and enrolled at San Jose State University, intending to major in speech communication.

Nicks dropped out of college after one semester to pursue a career in music. In 1967, she formed the folk rock band The Buckinghams with guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. The band released their debut album, Buckingham Nicks, in 1973, but it was not a commercial success.

In 1974, Nicks and Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac. The band’s 1977 album Rumours was a massive commercial success, selling over 40 million copies worldwide. Nicks has released eight solo studio albums, the most recent being 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault (2014).

Nicks has been married twice, first to Kim Anderson (1983–84) and then to Robin Anderson (1985–87). She has no children.

Nicks has a net worth of $85 million.

Quotes

#Quote
1[on Christine McVie] We all did everything we could do to try and talk her out of quitting. But you look in someone's eyes and you can tell they're finished. As Taylor Swift would say: "We are never ever getting back together ever!". That's what Chris was saying. But I'd beg, borrow and scrape together $5 million and give it to her in cash if she would come back. That's how much I miss her.
2[on why Christine McVie would never return to Fleetwood Mac] She went to England and she has never been back since 1998... as much as we would all like to think that she'll just change her mind one day, I don't think it'll happen. We love her, so we had to let her go.
3The whole hugeness of it all had really hit everybody very hard. And the biggest thing is Chris and I got a lot of attention because we were the girls, and they didn't like that. They didn't like it then; they don't like it now.
4As a member of Fleetwood Mac, for two weeks I was still working at the restaurant because I'd given them notice. I didn't just want to walk in there and say, "I'm going to be a famous rock star so I quit and I never liked your food anyway.".
5I wouldn't like to be in movies. Movie people are strange. They live a different life than musicians do. And I really think they're much wilder than we are. One time, four movie guys walked up to me at a party after a show. I was looking good. And they took me apart with their eyes. The hair on my arms stood up.
