Fact
Leader of the Dixie Dregs and Steve Morse Band.
Steve Morse is an American guitarist and composer, best known as the founder of the band Dixie Dregs and as a member of Deep Purple since 1994. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on July 28, 1954, the son of a high school music teacher. His family moved to Augusta, Georgia, when he was four years old. He began playing guitar at age eleven, and within a few years was taking classical guitar lessons. He also played in various rock bands during his teenage years.
Morse attended the University of Michigan, where he studied classical guitar and composition. He played in a number of bands while in college, including the Dixie Dregs, which he formed with fellow students Frank Zappa and Rod Morgenstein. The Dregs released their first album in 1977, and their blend of rock, jazz, and classical influences quickly gained them a following. The band released several more albums over the next few years, including the highly acclaimed Unsung Heroes (1981).
Morse left the Dregs in 1983 to pursue a solo career. He released his first solo album, The Steve Morse Band, in 1985. The album featured a number of guest musicians, including Zappa and Morgenstein. Morse released several more solo albums over the next few years, exploring a variety of musical styles. In 1994, he joined Deep Purple, replacing Ritchie Blackmore. With Deep Purple, he has recorded six studio albums, the most recent being Now What?! (2013).
Morse is widely respected as a guitar virtuoso, and has been voted “Best Overall Guitarist” by Guitar Player magazine five times. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Deep Purple in 2016.
Morse has been married three times and has four children. His first marriage, to Susan Vanhecke, ended in divorce. He married his second wife, Pam Sullivan, in 1992. The couple have two children together. Morse married his third wife, Connie Petit, in 2009. They have two children together.
Morse has an estimated net worth of $20 million. He earns a salary of $3 million per year from Deep Purple. He has also earned royalties from his solo albums and from the Dixie Dregs.

I encourage everyone. If you're going to bring something in, don't bring in a finished piece because then it's not a group effort. The idea is to get everybody involved, and that really keeps our group identity going.
