Steve Kerr is an American former professional basketball player and the current head coach of the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is also a television analyst for Turner Network Television (TNT). He played college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats, winning an NCAA championship in 1997. Kerr was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 1988 NBA draft. He also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls. He won three NBA championships as a player with the Bulls and two with the Spurs.
Kerr was born in Beirut, Lebanon, on September 27, 1965, to Malcolm H. Kerr, an American academic who specialized in the Middle East, and Ann Zwicker Kerr, a Canadian-born teacher and artist. His family moved to the United States when he was a child. Kerr attended Pacific Palisades High School in Los Angeles and played basketball for the school team. He then enrolled at the University of Arizona on a basketball scholarship.
Kerr played four seasons of college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats. He was a member of the team that won the NCAA championship in 1997. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA tournament. Kerr graduated from Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in general studies in 1988.
Kerr was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 1988 NBA draft. He played for the Suns for three seasons. He then played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls. He won three NBA championships as a player with the Bulls and two with the Spurs.
Kerr retired from playing basketball in 2003. He became a television analyst for TNT in 2006. He was hired as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors in 2014. Kerr has been married to Margot Kerr since 1990. They have three children together.
