He is a brilliant player on both acoustic and electric basses.
Stanley Clarke is an American jazz musician and composer known for his work as a bassist with some of the most famous jazz, rock and pop musicians of the last 50 years. He was born on June 30, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of a jazz saxophonist and a gospel singer. His family moved to Los Angeles when he was four years old, and it was there that he began playing the bass guitar at the age of 13. He soon began sitting in with local jazz bands, and by the time he was 18 he was touring with the likes of Horace Silver and Art Blakey. In 1971 he joined the jazz-fusion band Return to Forever, which also featured Chick Corea, Stanley’s close friend and musical collaborator for many years.

The group’s self-titled debut album was released that year to critical acclaim, and they went on to release a string of successful albums over the next few years. In the late 1970s Clarke began working on solo projects, and his debut solo album, Stanley Clarke, was released in 1974. He has since released over 20 albums as a solo artist, and his work has earned him four Grammy Awards. He has also composed music for film and television, including the score for the 1984 film The Cotton Club.
Clarke’s distinctive playing style has made him one of the most sought-after bassists in the music industry, and he has worked with a wide range of artists including Paul McCartney, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis. He is also a highly respected educator, and has taught at the Berklee College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. Clarke currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two children. ..
