Simon Le Bon is an English singer, songwriter and musician, best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band Duran Duran and its offshoot, Arcadia. He is also a successful solo artist, with his debut album, Here, reaching the Top 10 in the UK and spawning the hit single “Hungry Like the Wolf”. Le Bon has appeared in two films, playing himself in the rockumentary Spice World and appearing as Durand Durand in the cult classic Barbarella. He has also modelled for brands such as Armani, Versace and Calvin Klein.
Born in Bushey, Hertfordshire, England on October 27, 1958, Simon John Charles Le Bon is the son of Ann (née Sheppard) and John Le Bon. His father was a milkman who later became a manager at an estate agents and his mother was a florist. He has two sisters, Suzanne and Jane, and a brother, David. Le Bon was educated at Tylers Croft Infants School, Bushey Meads Junior School and Ashlyns School, all in Hertfordshire. He then attended art college in Watford for one year before dropping out to pursue a career in music.
Le Bon’s musical career began in 1977 when he answered an advert in Melody Maker for a band called Duran Duran. He auditioned for the band and was successful, becoming the lead singer and one of the main songwriters. Duran Duran went on to become one of the biggest bands of the 1980s, with hits such as “Rio”, “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Save a Prayer”. The band’s popularity waned in the early 1990s but they made a comeback with their 1993 album Duran Duran (The Wedding Album), which spawned the hit single “Ordinary World”. The band has continued to tour and release new music throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
In 1985, Le Bon released his first solo single, “Theme from Great Cities”, which reached number five in the UK. He has since released two solo albums, Here (1987) and Strange Behaviour (1989), both of which reached the Top 10 in the UK. His solo singles include “I Don’t Want Your Love” (1988) and “Peaceful Times” (1989).
Le Bon has been married to model Yasmin Parvaneh since 1985. The couple have three daughters: Amber Rose Tamara (born 1989), Saffron Sahara (born 1991) and Tallulah Pine (born 1994).
