Savion Glover is an American dancer, choreographer, and actor. He is considered one of the most influential tap dancers of his generation. Glover began dancing at the age of four and made his Broadway debut in The Tap Dance Kid in 1984. He has gone on to perform in a number of stage productions and films, including Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever and Bamboozled. Glover has also choreographed for such artists as Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Stevie Wonder. In 1996, he founded the company Savion Glover Productions, which produces tap dance shows and educational programs. Glover was inducted into the National Museum of Dance’s Hall of Fame in 2002.
Glover was born in Newark, New Jersey, on November 19, 1973. His mother, Yvonne Glover, was a tap dancer who ran a dance school in Newark. His father, Gregory Glover, was a musician. Glover began taking tap dance lessons from his mother at the age of four. He made his Broadway debut in The Tap Dance Kid in 1984. After appearing in a number of other stage productions, Glover choreographed Spike Lee’s film Jungle Fever in 1991. He also appeared in Lee’s film Bamboozled in 2000.
In 1996, Glover founded the company Savion Glover Productions. The company produces tap dance shows and educational programs. Glover has choreographed for such artists as Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Stevie Wonder. He has also appeared in a number of films, including The Mighty Ducks (1992) and Tap (1989).
Glover was inducted into the National Museum of Dance’s Hall of Fame in 2002. He has won Tony Awards for his choreography in the Broadway productions Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk (1996) and Shuffle Along (2016). Glover’s net worth is estimated to be $5 million.
