Early Life
Rocco Romano was born on March 29, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York, to Italian immigrant parents. He has two older sisters. He was raised in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. He attended Catholic school and graduated from high school in 1979.
Romano began his career as a stand-up comedian in the early 1980s. He appeared on several television shows, including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Night with David Letterman. In 1986, he had a small role in the film Crocodile Dundee.
Career
Romano’s breakout role came in 1999, when he was cast as Pops Romano on the HBO series The Sopranos. He appeared in all 86 episodes of the show’s six-season run.
In addition to his work on The Sopranos, Romano has appeared in a number of films and television shows. His film credits include Analyze This (1999), The Wrestler (2008), and Cop Land (1997). His television credits include guest appearances on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NYPD Blue, and The Good Wife.
Romano has also written two books: a memoir, A Bronx Tale: The Making of a Mobster (2007), and a crime novel, The Whole Shebang (2009).
