Robert Lorenz is an American film producer and director. He is best known for his work on the films Mystic River (2003), The Bridges of Madison County (1995) and Trouble with the Curve (2012).
Lorenz was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 15, 1961. His father, Harry, was a television producer, and his mother, Barbara, was a homemaker. He has two sisters, Lisa and Amy. Lorenz was raised in the Jewish faith.
He attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He also played on the USC Trojans baseball team.
After graduation, Lorenz began his career working in the mailroom at Warner Bros. Studios. He later worked as an assistant to producer Clint Eastwood on the films The Bridges of Madison County (1995) and Absolute Power (1997).
In 2003, Lorenz made his directorial debut with the film Mystic River. The film was a critical and commercial success, earning Lorenz an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Lorenz has since produced and/or directed the films Million Dollar Baby (2004), Invictus (2009), J. Edgar (2011), Trouble with the Curve (2012) and Sully (2016).
