Stone was born in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He has two older sisters. His father was a high school football coach and his mother was a school teacher. Stone played football and lacrosse in high school. He attended Syracuse University, where he played lacrosse.
Stone began his career as a production assistant at ESPN. He later became a commentator for college football and basketball games. He has also worked as a studio host for various sports programs.
Stone is married to his wife, Jill. They have two children together.
