Rob Estes was born on July 22, 1963, in Norfolk, Virginia, to parents who were both in the military. His father was a pilot and his mother was a nurse. He has two older sisters. Rob Estes was raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He attended First Colonial High School, where he played football and was a member of the track team. After graduation, he attended the University of Southern California on a football scholarship. He played quarterback for the USC Trojans from 1982 to 1985.

After college, Rob Estes moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. He made his television debut in an episode of the series The New Lassie in 1989. He went on to have roles in the television series Silk Stalkings, Melrose Place, and 90210. He has also appeared in the films Beverly Hills Cop III and The Skulls.

In addition to his work as an actor, Rob Estes has also directed episodes of the television series Silk Stalkings and Melrose Place. He has also produced the films A Friend of the Family and The Skulls III.

Rob Estes has been married twice. His first marriage was to actress Josie Bissett from 1992 to 2006. They have two children together. He married actress Erin Bolte in 2010. They have one child together.
