Rachel Stevens (born April 9, 1978) is an English singer, songwriter, actress, television presenter, model and businesswoman. She was a member of the pop group S Club 7 between 1999 and 2003. Stevens had a brief acting career after the group’s dissolution, appearing in various West End musicals such as Chicago, Guys and Dolls and Cabaret. She also made several television appearances, including Strictly Come Dancing and The Jump. In 2014, she was a contestant on the UK reality show Celebrity MasterChef.
Stevens was born in Southgate, London, England, the daughter of a Jewish father and an English mother. She has two brothers, Jason and Leigh. Stevens was raised in a Jewish household and attended a Jewish Sunday school. Her parents divorced when she was eight years old and she was subsequently brought up by her mother.
Stevens attended Osidge JMI School and Ashmole School in Southgate. She later studied at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London.
Stevens’ first foray into the entertainment industry came when she was cast as one of the original members of the pop group S Club 7. The group achieved success with their debut album, S Club 7, which was certified quadruple platinum in the UK. The group’s second album, 7, was also successful, reaching number one in the UK and being certified triple platinum.
The group disbanded in 2003, but Stevens continued to pursue a career in music, releasing her debut solo album Funky Dory in 2003. The album peaked at number nine on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum. Stevens’ second album Come and Get It was released in 2005 and peaked at number five on the UK Albums Chart. It was certified gold.
Stevens’ acting career began in 2004 when she made her West End debut in the musical Chicago. She has since appeared in several other West End musicals, including Guys and Dolls and Cabaret. She has also appeared on television shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and The Jump.
In 2014, Stevens took part in the UK reality show Celebrity MasterChef. She was eliminated in the second week of the competition.
Stevens has been married to actor Andrew Levitas since 2009. The couple have two daughters: Minnie (born 2010) and Amelie (born 2012).
