Peri Gilpin was born on May 27, 1961 in Waco, Texas, the daughter of Barbara and Perry Gilpin. She has three sisters: Holly, Marcy and Dana. Her father was an orthodontist and her mother was a housewife. Gilpin was raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1979. She then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied drama and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1983.

Gilpin’s first professional acting job was in an episode of the television series Dallas in 1984. She then appeared in episodes of the television series Cheers, LA Law and Matlock. In 1986, she had a small role in the film Crocodile Dundee.
Gilpin’s breakout role came in 1992 when she was cast as Roz Doyle in the television series Frasier. She played the role for 11 seasons until the series ended in 2004. For her work on Frasier, Gilpin was nominated for five Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards.
Since Frasier ended, Gilpin has had roles in the television series Make It or Break It, Medium, The Good Wife, Mr. Robinson and Angie Tribeca. She has also had roles in the films The Last Shot, A Lot Like Love and Over Her Dead Body.
Gilpin is married to Christian Vincent, a real estate developer. They have two daughters: Stella and Ava.
