Hardcastle was born in London, England, on 10 December 1957. His father was a jazz musician, and his mother was a singer. Hardcastle was exposed to music at an early age and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later took up the drums and began playing in bands during his teenage years.

Hardcastle’s first major success came with his 1985 single “19”, which topped the charts in several countries. The song was inspired by the Vietnam War, and its success led to Hardcastle being nominated for a Grammy Award.

Hardcastle has released a number of albums and singles over the years, both as a solo artist and as a member of the band The Jazzmasters. He has also composed music for film and television, including the theme tune for the UK version of the reality TV show Big Brother.
