Moriah Jefferson was born on October 21, 1994, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, to parents T.J. Jefferson and Anita Jefferson. She has two older sisters, Tiffany and Ashley. Jefferson began playing basketball at a young age and attended Christ the King Regional High School in New York City. She was a four-year starter on the varsity team and helped lead the Royals to three consecutive state championships. Jefferson was named a McDonald’s All-American as a senior in 2012. She was also named the Gatorade National Player of the Year and the Naismith High School Player of the Year.

Jefferson attended the University of Connecticut, where she played for the Huskies from 2012 to 2016. She was a four-year starter and helped lead UConn to four consecutive NCAA national championships. Jefferson was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four in both 2015 and 2016. She was also named the Associated Press Player of the Year in 2016. Jefferson graduated from UConn with a degree in sociology.

Jefferson was selected with the second overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft by the San Antonio Stars. She was traded to the Dallas Wings prior to the start of the 2017 season. Jefferson was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2017. She averaged 9.7 points and 3.4 assists per game in her rookie season.

Jefferson is currently dating NBA player Blake Griffin. The couple has two children together, a daughter born in 2018 and a son born in 2020.
