Marvin Minoff was born on October 28, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Jewish immigrants from Russia. He was the youngest of three children. His father was a tailor and his mother was a homemaker. He attended public schools in Brooklyn and graduated from high school in 1940. He then enrolled in the City College of New York, where he studied accounting. He graduated from CCNY in 1944 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Minoff began his career as an accountant with a small firm in New York City. He later joined the accounting firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG), where he became a partner. In 1960, he left Peat Marwick to join the investment banking firm of Lehman Brothers, where he became a managing director. He retired from Lehman Brothers in 1985.
Minoff was active in Jewish philanthropic and communal organizations. He served on the boards of the United Jewish Appeal, the Jewish Federations of North America, and the Jewish Community Centers Association. He was also a trustee of the Weizmann Institute of Science and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Minoff died on December 21, 2015, at his home in New York City. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, and four grandchildren.
