Laila Elwi (born October 10, 1950) is an Egyptian actress. She has appeared in over 100 films and television shows since 1967.

Elwi was born in Cairo, Egypt, the daughter of an Egyptian father and a Syrian mother. She has four brothers and sisters. She began her career as a model in 1967, before appearing in her first film, Al-Ikhtiyar (The Choice), in the same year.

Elwi’s first major role was in the film Al-Qa’im (The Rising), directed by Youssef Chahine, in 1969. She has since appeared in a number of Chahine’s films, including Al-Aswad (The Black), Al-Mummia (The Mummy), and Al-Massir (Destiny).

Elwi has also worked with a number of other Egyptian directors, including Mohamed Khan, Sherif Arafa, and Ibrahim El-Alfy. She has appeared in films such as Al-Irhab wal Kabab (Terror and Kebab), Al-Wad Sayidaty (My Son’s Wife), and Al-Raya wa al-Sabaa (The Seventh Heaven).

Elwi has won a number of awards for her work, including the Best Actress award at the Cairo International Film Festival for her role in the film Al-Raya wa al-Sabaa. She was also nominated for the Best Actress award at the Asian Film Awards for her role in the film Cairo Exit.

Elwi is married to actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, with whom she has two daughters, Rania and Salma.
