Kevin Dunn is an American actor and comedian. He was born on August 24, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois, to John Dunn, a musician, and his wife, an artist. Kevin has two older sisters. He was raised in a Catholic household and attended Catholic schools. He graduated from high school in 1974.
Dunn began his career in stand-up comedy, performing in clubs and colleges throughout the Midwest. He moved to Los Angeles in 1980 and made his television debut on an episode of the sitcom Taxi. He had a small role in the film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and appeared in the television movie The Ratings Game (1984).
Dunn’s breakout role came in the 1986 comedy film Top Gun, in which he played the role of Lt. Commander Rick “Jester” Heatherly. He also appeared in the films Transformers (2007), Wall-E (2008), and Cars (2006). In addition to his work in film, Dunn has also appeared in numerous television shows, including Seinfeld, Roseanne, and NewsRadio. He has also done voice work for animated shows and video games.
Dunn has been married three times. His first marriage was to actress Lynne Koplitz from 1999 to 2005. His second marriage was to actress/writer Nancy Walls from 2006 to 2010. He has been married to actress/writer Julie Bowen since 2012. They have three children together.
