Jon Ryan (born November 26, 1981) is a Canadian football punter who is currently a free agent. He was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He played college football at Regina.

Ryan has also been a member of the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, and Buffalo Bills.

Early Life

Jon Ryan was born on November 26, 1981, in Regina, Saskatchewan. His parents are Doug and Linda Ryan. He has two brothers, Jason and Jeremy.

Ryan attended John Paul II Collegiate in Regina. He played quarterback and safety on the school’s football team. He also played hockey and baseball.

After high school, Ryan attended the University of Regina. He played for the Regina Rams from 2000 to 2004. He was named a CIS All-Canadian in 2004.

Career

Green Bay Packers

After going undrafted in the 2006 NFL Draft, Ryan was signed by the Green Bay Packers as a free agent on May 1, 2006. He was released by the Packers on September 2, 2006.

Seattle Seahawks

Ryan was signed by the Seattle Seahawks on November 28, 2008, to replace an injured Josh Brown. He made his NFL debut on December 14, 2008, against the Philadelphia Eagles. He finished the season with a 41.7-yard average on 36 punts.

In 2009, Ryan had a career-high gross punting average of 45.6 yards and a net average of 39.9 yards. He also had a career-high 31 punts inside the 20-yard line.

In 2010, Ryan averaged 44.2 yards per punt and had a net average of 39.0 yards. He also had 28 punts inside the 20-yard line.

New England Patriots

On September 12, 2017, Ryan was signed by the New England Patriots to replace an injured Cody Hollister. He was released by the Patriots on October 3, 2017 after appearing in two games and punting eight times for 391 yards (48.9 avg).

Buffalo Bills

On October 17, 2017, Ryan was signed by the Buffalo Bills to replace an injured Colton Schmidt. He finished the season appearing in eight games and punting 34 times for 1,576 yards (46.4 avg).
