Jon Farriss is an Australian drummer, percussionist, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as a founding member of the rock band INXS.

Farriss was born in Perth, Western Australia, on 27 October 1957. He is the youngest of five children. His parents were both schoolteachers. His older siblings are Andrew, Gillian, Tim, and Jenny.

Farriss began playing drums at the age of 12. He was influenced by his older brother Tim, who was a member of the band The Easybeats.

Farriss attended Perth Modern School and later studied at the University of Western Australia. He left university before completing his degree to pursue a career in music.

In 1977, Farriss formed INXS with his older brother Andrew and school friends Michael Hutchence, Garry Gary Beers, and Kirk Pengilly. The band’s debut album, INXS, was released in 1980.

The band achieved international success with their third album, Shabooh Shoobah, which was released in 1982. Their fourth album, The Swing, was released in 1984 and became their biggest-selling album.

INXS achieved their greatest success with their 1987 album, Kick. The album’s lead single, “Need You Tonight”, reached number one in the US and UK. The album also included the singles “Devil Inside” and “New Sensation”, which both reached the top 10 in the US.

INXS continued to enjoy success in the early 1990s with their albums X (1990) and Welcome to Wherever You Are (1992).

Tragedy struck the band in 1997 when lead singer Michael Hutchence was found dead in his hotel room in Sydney. The cause of death was ruled as suicide.

INXS continued to perform and record after Hutchence’s death. Their ninth studio album, Elegantly Wasted, was released in 1997. The band’s final studio album, Switch, was released in 2005.

Farriss has also worked as a producer and songwriter for other artists. He produced the album Kick by Australian band Noiseworks in 1987. He has also co-written songs with artists such as Jimmy Barnes, Tina Arena, and Delta Goodrem.

Farriss has been married twice. His first marriage was to Jillian Billman in 1984. The couple have two children together: Dylan and Elliott. Farriss divorced Billman in 1995.

His second marriage was to model Mia Tyler in 2002. The couple have one child together: Axton Joseph Farriss. Farriss and Tyler divorced in 2005.

Farriss has an estimated net worth of $40 million.
