Jon Cleary is an Australian singer-songwriter and pianist, who has been performing since the 1970s. He has released nineteen studio albums, and his work has been recognised with numerous awards.
Cleary was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1947. His parents were both musicians, and he began playing piano at a young age. He was educated at the University of New South Wales, where he studied classical music.
Cleary’s career began in the 1970s, when he started performing in clubs and bars around Sydney. He released his debut album, Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monkeys, in 1977. The album was a critical and commercial success, and Cleary began touring internationally.
He has released nineteen studio albums over the course of his career, including such acclaimed works as Moonburn (1988), What’s Going On (1991), and Occapella (1995). Cleary has won five ARIA Music Awards, and he was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2009.
Cleary has also been active as a producer and session musician, working with such artists as Bonnie Raitt, John Hiatt, and Eric Clapton. He currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he is a member of the band The Absolute Zeros.
