Joe Bugner is a British-Australian former professional boxer who competed from 1967 to 1986. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, on 11 March 1950, the son of Hungarian parents. His family moved to Australia when he was two years old, and he was raised in Sydney. He began his boxing career at the age of 17, and won the Australian heavyweight title in 1969. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1970, and won the British heavyweight title in 1973. He fought Muhammad Ali for the world heavyweight title in 1974, and lost by a unanimous decision. He also fought for the world heavyweight title against George Foreman in 1975, and lost by a knockout in the second round. Bugner retired from boxing in 1986 with a record of 52 wins, 9 losses and 1 draw. He currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.
