The album "Catholic Boy" was released in 1980 followed by "Dry Dreams" in 82 and "I Write Your Name" in 84, all of which were released by Atlantic Records. In 1993 "A World Without Gravity: The Best of the Jim Carroll Band" was released by Rhino Records.
Jim Carroll was born in New York City on August 1, 1949. His parents were of Irish descent. He had four brothers and one sister. His early education was at a Catholic school, where he was an altar boy. He later attended public schools.
Carroll’s career began when he was 13 years old, when he started writing poetry. He later became a musician and singer, and released his first album, Catholic Boy, in 1978. He also wrote a memoir, The Basketball Diaries, which was made into a film in 1995.
