Jay Duplass is an American film director, producer, and actor. He is the co-creator, alongside Mark Duplass, of the HBO television series Togetherness. The Duplass brothers also wrote, directed, and produced the films The Puffy Chair (2005), Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011), and The Do-Deca-Pentathlon (2012). Jay Duplass has also acted in numerous films and television series, including The League, Transparent, and Animals.
Jay Duplass was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on March 7, 1973. He is the son of Cynthia (née Price) and Lawrence Duplass. His father was a real estate broker and his mother was a stay-at-home mom. He has two brothers, Mark Duplass and David Duplass. He was raised in a Catholic household.
Duplass attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans. He then studied English and History at the University of Texas at Austin. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film.
Duplass began his career as an actor, appearing in films such as Humpday (2009) and Cyrus (2010). He also had recurring roles on television series such as The League and Transparent. In 2015, he starred in the film Animals.
Duplass has also directed and produced several films with his brother Mark. Their first film, The Puffy Chair (2005), was made for $15,000 and was acquired by Netflix. Their second film, Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011), starred Jason Segel and Ed Helms. Their third film, The Do-Deca-Pentathlon (2012), was a comedy about two brothers who compete in a 25-event competition.
