Jack Kramer was born on August 1, 1921 in Las Vegas, Nevada. His parents were both professional gamblers, and his early childhood was spent in and out of casinos. When he was old enough, Kramer began working as a croupier and then as a dealer. He eventually became a casino manager, and then a casino owner.

Kramer’s first foray into the world of professional sports came as a tennis player. He won several tournaments in the 1940s, and was ranked as high as No. 4 in the world. In 1947, he founded the Jack Kramer Professional Tennis Club, which helped to popularize the game of tennis.

In 1948, Kramer turned his attention to promoting and organizing professional tennis tournaments. He founded the Pacific Coast Championships, which later became the Pacific Southwest Championships. He also founded the Los Angeles Open, which is now known as the Farmers Classic.

Kramer’s most significant contribution to tennis came in 1949, when he helped to establish the first professional tennis circuit, known as the Men’s International Professional Tennis Council. He served as the council’s first president, and was instrumental in setting up the first professional tennis rankings system.

Kramer retired from playing tennis in 1954, but remained active in the sport as a promoter and administrator. In 1966, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Kramer’s business interests included real estate, restaurants, and golf courses. He was also a successful horse breeder and racing owner.

At the time of his death in 2009, Kramer’s net worth was estimated at $100 million.

Kramer was married three times and had four children. His first marriage, to actress Gloria DeHaven, ended in divorce. His second marriage, to model Barbara Jo Stahl, lasted for 33 years until her death in 1992. His third marriage, to former tennis player Peggy Michel, lasted until his death.
