He began his career as a dancer in nightclubs and then toured with various musical acts, including the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and Gladys Knight. He also appeared in several films, including “Cotton Comes to Harlem” and “The Wiz”.

In 1976, he was hired as a regular performer on “The Gong Show”, where he became known for his energetic dancing and his catchphrase, “Gene, Gene, the Dancing Machine”. He continued to appear on the show until it was cancelled in 1980.

He has also appeared on several game shows, including “Hollywood Squares” and “The Price is Right”. In recent years, he has retired from performing and now lives in Las Vegas, Nevada.
