Gareth Jones (born 16 September 1987) is a Welsh professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for League One club Wigan Athletic.
Born in Wrexham, Wales, Jones began his career with local club Wrexham before joining Everton’s Academy in 2004. He spent two years with Everton, before being released in 2006. He then spent time on trial with several clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United, before joining Wigan Athletic in 2007.
Jones made his professional debut for Wigan in 2008, and has since made over 200 appearances for the club. He has also represented Wales at international level, earning over 20 caps since his debut in 2009.
A versatile midfielder, Jones is capable of playing both in the centre of midfield and on the wing. He is known for his work-rate and energy, as well as his ability to score goals.
Born in Wrexham, Wales, Jones was brought up in the village of Gwersyllt. He attended Gwersyllt Community Primary School and Ysgol Bryn Alyn, before joining Everton’s Academy in 2004.

Jones made his professional debut for Wigan in 2008, coming on as a substitute in a League Cup match against Hartlepool United. He made his Premier League debut later that season, coming on as a late substitute in a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Jones became a regular starter for Wigan during the 2009-10 season, making 33 appearances in all competitions. He scored his first professional goal in a 3-2 win over West Ham United in December 2009.
Jones continued to be a regular starter for Wigan during the 2010-11 season, making 37 appearances in all competitions. He scored four goals during the season, including the winner in a 1-0 win over Liverpool in April 2011.
