Eddie Campbell is a Scottish comics artist and graphic novelist, best known for his work on From Hell and Alec.
Born in 1956 in Glasgow, Scotland, Campbell was raised in Australia from the age of 12. He began his career as a cartoonist in the late 1970s, working for underground and alternative publications such as Oz magazine and the Sydney Morning Herald. He first gained international attention for his work on From Hell, a graphic novel about the Jack the Ripper murders, which he co-wrote with Alan Moore and illustrated with painstaking detail. The book was adapted into a 2001 film starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham.
Campbell’s other notable works include Alec, a semi-autobiographical graphic novel series about his own life, and The Lovely Horrible Stuff, a non-fiction work about money and its effects on people’s lives. He has also illustrated books by Neil Gaiman, including the best-selling Sandman series.
