Dave Lamb is an English television announcer and voice-over artist, best known as the off-screen narrator of the Channel 4 comedy panel game show Countdown.
Lamb was born in London in 1965. His father was a civil servant and his mother was a schoolteacher. He has two older sisters. Lamb was educated at a comprehensive school in South London and then at the University of Sussex, where he read English literature.
Lamb’s career in television began in 1988 when he was working as a production assistant on the children’s series Tiswas. He was asked to fill in as an announcer when the regular announcer failed to turn up for work one day, and he enjoyed the experience so much that he decided to pursue a career in voice-over work.
Lamb’s big break came in 1992 when he was chosen to be the off-screen narrator of Countdown, a popular game show that airs on Channel 4. Lamb has been with the show ever since, and his distinctive voice has become one of its most recognisable features.
Lamb has also done voice-over work for a number of other television programmes, including The Weakest Link, Deal or No Deal, and The Chase. He has also appeared on screen as himself on a number of occasions, most notably in an episode of the sitcom Father Ted.
Lamb is married to fellow voice-over artist Sarah Douglas. The couple have two children.
Lamb’s net worth is estimated to be around £1 million.
