Chiranjeevi (born Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad on 22 August 1955) is an Indian actor, producer, politician and television personality known for his works in Telugu cinema. He has also worked in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam films. He made his acting debut with the film Punadhirallu (1978), but gained recognition with his role in Manchu Pallaki (1979). He later appeared in films like Intlo Ramayya Veedilo Krishnayya (1982), Khaidi (1983), Challenge (1984), Pasivadi Pranam (1987), Yamudiki Mogudu (1988), Donga Mogudu (1992), Gharana Mogudu (1992), Alluda Majaka (1995), Master (1997) and Tagore (2003).
Chiranjeevi has won four state Nandi Awards, four Filmfare Awards South, three CineMAA Awards, two South Indian International Movie Awards and a Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award – South. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2006 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. In 2013, he was conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by Andhra University. The Government of India has also honoured him with the Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award and the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debutante Male.
Early Life
Chiranjeevi was born on 22 August 1955 in Mogultur village of West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh to Venkat Rao and Hema Malini. His parents were from Mogultur village, West Godavari district. Chiranjeevi’s paternal grandfather, Sivaiah, was a well-known Telugu comedian who worked in films like Malliswari (1951) and Gundamma Katha (1962). Chiranjeevi’s father, Venkat Rao, was a constable in the Andhra Pradesh Police Department. Chiranjeevi has two brothers and two sisters, all of whom are married.
Chiranjeevi did his schooling at Mudunuru Zilla Parishad School and later at Nidadavolu Sri YN College. He graduated with a B.Com degree from Sri Venkateswara Arts College, Tirupati. He was an active member of the Student Federation of India (SFI) and took part in various student agitations during his college days. He was also a member of the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce.

Career
Chiranjeevi made his acting debut with the film Punadhirallu (1978). However, he gained recognition with his role in Manchu Pallaki (1979). Chiranjeevi has also worked as a producer and presenter for several films. He has produced films like Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (1990), Aapadbandhavudu (1992) and Hitler (1997). He has also presented films like Annayya (2000) and Shankar Dada MBBS (2004). Chiranjeevi has also worked as a dubbing artist for Telugu and Tamil films. He has dubbed for actors like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Chiyaan Vikram.
In 2008, Chiranjeevi founded the Praja Rajyam Party and contested in the 2009 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections. He won from Tirupati constituency with a margin of over 50,000 votes. In 2011, he merged his party with the Indian National Congress. In 2012, he was appointed as the Union Minister of State for Tourism. In 2014, he contested from Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency and won with a margin of over 3 lakh votes.

In 2017, Chiranjeevi was conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by Sathyabama University. In 2018, he was appointed as the brand ambassador of Telangana Tourism by the Government of Telangana.
